Annie and Jared’s Sauvie Island wedding was a little bit beach elopement, a little bit Portland party, and completely their own. They exchanged vows barefoot along the water with their closest people gathered around them, then headed into the city for a colorful reception at Hi-Top Tavern filled with retro details, heartfelt toasts, and one seriously packed dance floor.
A Beach Wedding on Sauvie Island
Annie & Jared had the most magical wedding in Portland, Oregon. The day began on the shores of Sauvie Island, where friends and family gathered barefoot in the sand with blankets spread along the water’s edge. Jared’s surprise canoe entrance across the water had everyone clapping, while Annie’s walk down to the shoreline felt both emotional and effortless. With their feet in the sand and the river beside them, they exchanged heartfelt vows and declared their love for one another.
Sauvie Island gave Annie and Jared a ceremony that felt completely removed from the city while still being part of their Portland wedding weekend. There was no elaborate ceremony setup needed. Just sand, water, blankets, their favorite people, and Jared casually arriving by canoe.
Weddings like this are exactly why I love filming around Portland and the Pacific Northwest. The best celebrations aren’t always built around traditional venues or timelines. Sometimes all you need is a beach, your people, and a slightly ridiculous entrance plan.
A Colorful Portland Reception at Hi-Top Tavern
As the sun began to dip, the celebration moved into the city for a reception at Hi-Top Tavern. Guests were welcomed personally by Annie and Jared as they arrived, colorful details filled every corner, and the dance floor quickly became the center of the universe. Heartfelt toasts and dances gave way to a packed dance floor and a signature t-shirt toss that perfectly captured the playful spirit of the day.
For another completely different kind of Portland-area celebration surrounded by nature, Nicole & Matt’s Bridal Veil Lakes wedding brought colorful garden-party details, towering evergreens, another iconic canoe entrance, and a wildly fun reception to the Columbia River Gorge.
Everything about this wedding felt intentional without taking itself too seriously. From the retro-inspired details and funky pops of color to the overwhelming warmth of the people surrounding them, Annie and Jared created a celebration that was joyful, welcoming, and unapologetically them. It was a day built around connection, community, and having an absolutely incredible time with the people they love most. Cheers to Annie & Jared and many more years to come!
